Walter Albán has been a member of DPLF's board since 2015. He is a lawyer, professor, and former dean of the law school at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. He is also a member of the university's Institute of Democracy and Human Rights, where he is currently the director of the master's program in law, with a focus on political jurisprudence. He has written extensively on constitutional issues and human rights.
He has served in the Peruvian Ombudsperson Office since the institution's founding in 1996; he served as Omsbudsperson of the country from 2000 to 2005. Between 2012 and 2013, he was Peru's ambassador to the Organization of American States; afterwards, he was appointed as Minister of State at Peru’s Interior Ministry. Until April of 2017, he was the Executive Director of PROETICA, the group responsible for creating the Peruvian chapter of Transparency International.
